The 2022 Commercial Vehicle Show took place at the Birmingham NEC from 24-26 May 2022. The CV Show is traditionally the UK’s largest commercial vehicle show, and always brings a host of van and pickup news, updates and often brand-spanking models as well.
Usually held at the end of April, the 2021 CV Show was delayed until September last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2022 event took place in late May.
Below is our report from the show, including all the relevant van and pickup news.
What were the stars of the 2022 CV Show?
The CV Show covers all kinds of commercial vehicles, but in terms of vans and pickups Ford, Maxus, Isuzu and Toyota were the main exhibitors. Ineos was also in attendance with its Grenadier commercial 4X4.
On top of this, there were lots of accessory and service suppliers as well, covering areas such as fleet management and van security.
FORD
The 2022 show saw Ford showing off the new V6-powered Ranger pickup, the more extreme Raptor version of the Ranger and the E-Transit electric van. It also launched a new mental health campaign with the aim of reducing suicide in the construction industry.
INEOS
Ineos appeared at the CV Show for the first time with the Grenadier. This looks like a cross between an original Defender and a Mercedes-Benz G-Class but powered by BMW engines, and is built to withstand the harshest of environments. Well worth a closer look, especially if you’re worried the latest Land Rover Defender Hard Top isn’t durable enough for you.
ISUZU
Isuzu showed the Arctic Trucks version of its latest D-Max pickup, with the AT35 appearing in public for the first time at the event. It was shown in pre-production form last year but is now available to buy.
The Basecamp AT35 model also on the stand is an expedition-prepped example complete with roof-tent and built-in kitchen.
MAXUS
Maxus launched an electric pickup at the 2022 CV Show – and with orderbooks set to open in August, the T90EV will be the first of its kind sold in the UK. Quite the coup, even if payload and driving range will present challenges.
TOYOTA
Nothing strictly new from Toyota, but a first chance for many to see the production version of the Corolla Hybrid van. Plus the UK debut for the Hilux GR-Sport.
