The IAA Transportation 2024 commercial vehicle show is set to play host to a range of different announcements, with lots of big brands choosing the occasion to reveal new and updated models alongside all the current best electric vans and more traditional versions.

Although the event caters to a wide range of commercial vehicle sectors, the LCV (light commercial vehicle) manufacturers are making the most of this year’s show. Below are all the major brands attending and what they are talking about in the Hannover halls.

Iveco’s medium electric van

Iveco is one of the brands that is launching an all new (to the brand at least) vehicle at IAA in 2024. The vehicle in question is a medium electric van that will be the second model in the company’s line up, joining the Daily. However, it has since emerged that this vehicle will be in left-hand drive only and won’t be coming to the UK.

Rather than being a totally new vehicle of Iveco’s creation, this model will be based on Hyundai’s all-electric Light Commercial Vehicle platform. Hyundai and Kia are sister companies, but this won’t be the same platform as the one under the forthcoming PBVs that Kia is also previewing at the IAA.

Kia’s new range of vans

Kia is not a regular at commercial vehicle shows but that is going to change in the coming years now that the brand is ramping up its plans to launch its range of vans in 2025. The Korean manufacturer chose the 2024 CES tech show to pull the covers off the first concept versions of the Kia PV5 and PV7, but the IAA is the first time that the vehicles have appeared in Europe.

The physical vehicles on the stand are the same concept cars that appeared in Las Vegas, but there has been more news on the forthcoming production models, with a cannily hidden teaser shot of the finished version.

MAN TGE with light updates

MAN only has the one light commercial vehicle in its range – the TGE – as it concentrates mainly on bigger trucks and lorries. 2024 brings a facelifted MAN TGE.

The TGE has a lot in common with the Volkswagen Crafter (which is a polite way of saying they are basically the same vehicle with a different badge and a few tweaks) so the updates the MAN is getting are those you will see on the VW.

This means that they are mainly interior changes, with a bigger screen and updated systems. There aren’t really any exterior revisions, so calling this a facelift is a bit misleading.

Renault’s retro van plan

The Renault Master is basically all launched now – we’ve driven it, and the first examples are on their way to customers soon. However, the big van, which was named the International Van of the Year at the show, was elbowed aside for the new Estafette concept, which is set to replace the Trafic in the coming years.

The Estafette has been created via a partnership called Flexis, which has seen collaboration between Renault, its trucks partner Volvo and logistics company CMA CGM. The Estafette is set to only be branded as a Renault, though, and will go on sale as soon as 2026.

Vauxhall goes hydrogen

The Stellantis group is also increasing the number of hydrogen vans in its portfolio, with the largest model the next to offer a fuel cell vehicle as an option. It’s this vehicle that will be on display at the IAA this September.

In the UK only Vauxhall will get an FCV version of its large van, with it set to be badged the Movano Hydrogen. This will join the Vivaro Hydrogen in Vauxhall’s range.

Volkswagen Transporter upstages the Crafter

There are two new models on the Volkswagen stand. The facelifted VW Crafter is the same story as the TGE on the MAN stand – a light update with a new interior and infotainment system. However, this will be firmly upstaged by the new VW Transporter, which is set to make its long-awaited global debut at the show.

While this is undeniably a big deal there is a degree of familiarity to the Transporter as it is the latest commercial vehicle to come out of the Ford-VW partnership. Like the Amarok looks different to the Ford Ranger pickup, the Transporter gets a fair few elements to set it apart from the Ford Transit Custom. The basic van is the same, though.
