The Iveco electric van range is going to double, as the brand is planning to launch a new mid-size model that will be revealed later this year.
The new Iveco medium van will be based on Hyundai’s Global all-electric Light Commercial Vehicle platform rather than being an in-house creation. The two companies have worked together before on larger vehicles, such as the hydrogen-powered eDaily FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) and the E-Way FCEV bus.
This is the first time that they have worked together on an electric light commercial vehicle, though, and the first time that Iveco has launched a medium van. It will join the Iveco Daily in the brand’s range in the UK.
Medium van with deliveries in mind
Although there are few precise details about the upcoming Iveco electric van, the platform is designed for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight between 2.5 tonnes and 3.5 tonnes. This would put it up against the likes of the Ford E-Transit Custom.
The platform is a purpose-built electric one, and this will be the first time that it has been used by a third party. It is designed to have a low floor to boost cargo loading and unloading, says Iveco.
Hyundai will supply the base vehicle in the form of a chassis cab, with Iveco then customise the van on a local basis depending on what is needed in the respective markets. It will be badged as an Iveco and sold exclusively through the brand’s dealer network.
When will the Iveco medium van go on sale and what will it be called?
It is not yet clear what the new van will be called, or what sort of battery and charging ability it will be offered with. More information is likely to be released in the coming months, ahead of the van’s official debut at the IAA Transportation 2024 show in Hannover, Germany.
This is likely to come in the form of teaser images and minor details, with the big reveal timetabled for 16 September.
