The Renault Master H2-Tech – the hydrogen version of the Renault Master large van – has been revealed at the IAA van show in Hannover in prototype form.

The new Master was always designed to be offered with a hydrogen powertrain and the H2-Tech version will sit alongside the electric E-Tech and the diesel model when it goes on sale in 2025.

Although the vehicle on show is a prototype, the production version is likely to carry the same Master H2-Tech name through until it goes on sale. It has been created in conjunction with Hyvia, a specialist company.

There are some impressive stats accompanying the prototype, with the current maximum range estimated to be 435 miles (700km) with a recharging time of just five minutes where the facilities exist.

Renault hasn’t revealed loads of detail about the vehicle so far, other than to confirm that it will be offered in a range of bodies in the same manner as the other versions. This will include a floor cab, chassis cab and the standard panel van, with a range of customisable options available through Renault’s approved bodybuilders.

The Renault Master H2-Tech is the third generation of hydrogen Master, although the first only launched in 2023 and was a niche product with a large addition on the roof of the vehicle, making it a less integrated affair. This third generation takes the learnings and customer feedback from those vehicles into account.
