New Renault Master E-Tech 100% electric brings something totally fresh to the large van market, with each element bringing something to appeal to the customer who has a keen focus on getting value from every part of their commercial vehicles.
It brings a wide range of advanced technology, improved practicality and a greater use of space in the cabin and loading area. The striking looks are totally new, too, but there’s more than just improved visuals. Renault has worked hard on the new Master’s aerodynamics, putting it to the test in a wind tunnel during development. This means it is now much more streamlined, whether it’s fitted with the E-Tech 100% electric powertrain or one of the various diesel engines on offer.
New Master E-Tech is one of the best in the large van class when it comes to electric range, offering up to 285 miles1between charges. This comes despite the fact that the Renault only needs an 87kWh battery. It also comes with rapid charging2 as standard, meaning that it is suitable for companies that need to minimise downtime and keep their vans on the road. This allows charging at speeds of up to 22kW on an AC connection and 130kW on a rapid DC charger where it’s available.
That smaller and therefore lighter battery benefits in other ways, too, as it means that the new Master E-Tech is also able to offer a fantastic payload of up to 1,625kg3. It also offers a towing weight of up to 2,500kg – something many electric vans aren’t able to compete with.
Value for money
Another area where new Master E-Tech has an advantage over its rivals is the price. With the Master E-Tech starting at £42,5004 it is cheaper than some electric vans from a smaller class, let alone those in its own category. Factor in the £5,000 Government plug-in van grant5 and that means you can get into the Master E-Tech for less than £40,000.
But it isn’t just the fleet decision makers that will be pleased by the new van’s attributes, as new Renault Master has been designed to make drivers’ lives more comfortable and easier. The S-shaped dashboard will be familiar to those who have been in Renault’s cars recently, but the connection to the brand’s passenger vehicles extends further than that. The seats are taken from the Austral SUV and the levels of tech are vastly improved over the previous van.
For example, new Master E-Tech is the first Renault van to come with a 10-inch open RLink touch screen as standard, while wireless smartphone integration is also included. Google maps and Google voice assistant are both available, too, as part of Google Built-in6. This is offered as an option or as standard from the Extra trim onwards.
Space and safety
The mobile office7 in the cabin also allows drivers to keep on top of paperwork away from the office. This brings a middle seat that folds down to provide a handy surface for writing, while USB-C and 12V sockets allow users to keep devices charged up while on the move. There are plenty of areas to keep these items stashed out of the way while parked up, too, with side storage spots dotted around the cabin which has a total of 135 litres of capacity.
Safety is a top priority in new Master E-Tech too, with up to 20 assistance systems available8. These are not tucked away on the options list either, with many offered as standard across the range. Every version gets active emergency braking, lane departure warning and driver attention and drowsiness alert for example.
Moving further back in the van, the loading area comes with increased space and a wide range of different sizes. The internal loading length is now up to 3,255mm while there are two lengths and two heights across three different versions.
Getting into the new Master’s loading bay is easier than before, too, with a large side sliding door at 1,313mm, meaning you can get bigger items in at the side of the vehicle. To make access even easier, there’s also the option of a rear step, while the back doors can open as wide as 270 degrees.
This practicality comes thanks to the overall van now being longer than the previous generation. However, it sits on a shorter wheelbase than before, which means it is more agile in tight spots, thanks to its reduced turning circle, which is as much as 1.5m smaller.
With its excellent range, rapid charging capability, high-end practicality and sophisticated and driver-centric cabin, new Renault Master E-Tech 100% electric is set to offer total cost of ownership savings for businesses looking to make the move into electric commercial vehicles without any compromises.
