The VW ID.Buzz Cargo 4Motion is set to be the most powerful Volkswagen commercial vehicle, with the electric van to be fitted with two motors that combine to offer a total output of 340hp.
Of equal note, the 4Motion is also the first time that a VW ID.Buzz Cargo is offered with anything other than rear wheel drive. One of those motors sits on the rear axle while the other is at the front, making this an all-wheel-drive van.
The second motor and the increased power means that the 4Motion is also a more capable van when it comes to towing, with the overall capacity increased from 1,200kg to 1,800kg. The drive system will also be offered on the VW ID.Buzz passenger car.
Although we expect the ID.Buzz 4Motion to come to the UK, not everything has been finalised yet. So while the German version has a 79kWh battery that provides an official range of 268 miles, the precise stats and equipment levels haven’t been confirmed as things stand, so those figures may change slightly for the UK. This official range is slightly lower than the best offered by the single motor model, which can provide up to 276 miles.
The other notable stat is the charging speed – the VW ID.Buzz Cargo 4Motion can be connected to a 185kW DC fast charger, just as the standard version can. However, VW it hasn’t yet revealed how long this will take you a full battery.
How much will the VW ID.Buzz Cargo 4Motion cost and when can I buy one?
As mentioned, VW UK told us that we don’t have final, definite confirmation that the 4Motion is going to be offered over here, but it seems a logical step in many ways.
This obviously means that pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but as a guide the German model will be a top-of-the-range model with pricing starting at 50,355 euros (£42,727) before taxes.
