We had to double check the date with this one. Ford Pro – the blue oval’s light commercial vehicle arm – has a new Delivery Assist feature that’s intended to save delivery drivers seconds at every stop.

Apparently it’s not an April Fools, but rather new technology available on Ford Transit and Transit Custom models fitted with an automatic transmission.

This includes the large E-Transit electric van and the medium E-Transit Custom.

What does Ford Pro Delivery Assist do?

It’s hard to believe, but the new system automatically turns the engine off, closes the windows, locks the doors and activates the hazard lights every time you stop the van to make a delivery. You might be wondering… why?

The reasoning is three-fold. Firstly, it helps ensure the van remains secure. Secondly, ‘it is designed to reduce the number of tasks that drivers need to remember, enabling them to concentrate on drop-offs and their surroundings.’ That’s according to Ford.

Fundamentally, though, the idea is to save time. ‘Seconds’ could be saved from every drop.

Once the delivery is done, the van is reopened via the keyless entry system, restarts when you press the brake pedal and – perhaps most importantly – resets the windows to their previous position.

The windows, the locking behaviour and the hazard light activation can all be tailored to the individual driver’s requirements.

Ford Pro Delivery Assist will start rolling out to customers in summer 2025. Enjoy.
