Vauxhall Astra Belmont 1.4 L 4d (1989/G) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
At £500, it was a bargain.
Costs
The cheapest car I have ever owned, bar none! Did 400 miles to a tank and parts dirt cheap!
-
On the road
Driving
Quite good. Very confident, but ride rather jarring.
Performance
Not too bad, 75bhp was a lot for a 1.4 back then but it didn't embarrass itself.
-
Living with it
Reliability
In 50k miles it only let me down twice. Once with a disintegrated distributer and 2nd with a split hose.
Image
Ok with cruisers, very understated but no image in real world...
Comfort
Very comfy. Seats better than in Mk4 Astra and headrests adjust.

Security and Service
Security
Locks are a joke. I put an alarm on mine and it wasn't broken into!
Service
This car was 11yrs old and my Curtis (my local dealer) had parts in! Even a brake pedal switch!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Solid as a rock. It had done near 200k miles when it left me and only the distibuter went...
Other
Seals went though... boot became a swimming pool in the rain...
