Vauxhall Astra Belmont 1.6 GL 4d Auto (1990/G) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I paid £300 for a pristine example. I feel this represents excellent value for money.
Costs
A few minor faults occurred that I decided to fix myself, but nothing major. Parts are cheap from the many part shops found on the Internet, and scrapyards are also an excellent source.

Driving
Contrary to opinion, I find my car a pleasure to drive, with the gearbox smooth and quiet, even under hard acceleration or kickdown.
Performance
Acceleration is excellent for a 13 year old car, with good torque throughout the entire driving range.

Living with it
Reliability
I have never had a problem with it, and any cold starting problem has never caused anything more than a small inconvenience.
Image
The image could be better, but it is not at all bad for a car of this age.
Comfort
Excellent. The seats are easily adjustable, and the car is very spacious. The engine is quite quiet for an older car, although it does get slightly raucous at anything over 4000 rpm.

Security and Service
Security
Security provided by original equipment is poor, with only central locking fitted as standard. I believe that the alarm and immobiliser is an aftermarket device.
