Should you buy one?

While the Astra isn’t a bad electric car, there are simply better options for similar money or less. If you want the reassurance of a European brand you’re better off with a Cupra Born or another bespoke electric car. If you’re after value then the MG4 Long Range is almost impossible to beat for the money.

If you’re a serial Vauxhall owner that must have an Astra Electric, we’d recommend keeping it as cheap as possible. After all, even a base GS is more than an entry-level Volkswagen ID.3. Go for Ultimate trim and you’re knocking on the door of Tesla Model 3 pricing.

What we like

Physical controls for stuff like the heating make the Astra less frustrating than many touch-sensitive rivals, and the seats are comfortable on long distances. With impressive efficiency and a reasonably-sized battery, it’ll run for long enough to make you appreciate the seats.

What we don’t like

It’s far too expensive for its capabilities and the boot isn’t as big as a regular petrol or diesel Astra. We also found the ride to be harsh around town while efficiency drops like a stone on the motorway.
