Vauxhall Astra Coupe 1.8i 16v 2d (2002/51) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Economical if driven reasonably, well built and refined
Costs
Can't really comment as it's a company car, but come on.. It's a Vauxhall!

On the road
Driving
Even the 1.8 is quick. Keeps up with most Hot Hatches, and handles nice with the 17" alloys. Good brakes, sharp handling, German-like heavyish chasis, etc
Performance
Proabably a bit quicker than it actually feels, due to a heavy chasis.

Living with it
Reliability
Seems ok, but been back to dealers for various warranty work. Mainly rattles. Currently got a minor rattle from front suspension when going hard over a bump.
Image
Tempted to give it 5. I've opted for the full Irmscher bodykit, wheels and exhaust. Plus it's black, so gets the looks. Real road presence.
Comfort
I do a lot of motorway miles. Chasis is nice, refined and relaxing. Seats not bad, but should be better for the money. 5th gear way too small. Tops out at 125mph, but engine still willing!

Security and Service
Security
Deadlocks are good, but if someone really wants to nick it, they will! Been vandalised twice in a year in opposites parts of UK, so envy factor can be high.
Service
JCT600 Bradford are generally polite and don't overpromise. Basically no-bull service which means you know where you are with them. Courtesy Car Wash is a good 'warm-fuzzy' bonus.
