Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 2.0i Sport 5d (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Purchased 3 years old. Had already lost 50% of its original £15k price - bargain for me!
Costs
Besides the regular servicing, costing around £120, and the brakes needing some attention, no other problems.
-
On the road
Driving
Solid drive, with positive feedback from power steering. Low profile tyres would improve cornering at speed.
Performance
Still surprises some at the lights! Fuel economy good at a constant 70/80mph, but poor on short journeys.

Living with it
Reliability
Starts everytime when warm, hot or cold. Never had to call out a breakdown service.
Image
Although now an older model, still turns heads when I put the effort in to cleaning it. Glacier white with black trim.
Comfort
Bucket seats and firm suspension can make long journeys hard on the bones if you don't adjust them correctly before starting out.

Security and Service
Security
Usual Vauxhall alarm/immobiliser, that hasn't caused any problems.
Service
No problems with a helpful local dealer.
