Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 1.6i Club 5d (2001/51) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
CD fitted by Vauxhall at no extra cost, good equipment level considering its a club.
Costs
Very economical if not driven hard, parts cheap and easy to get hold of (mine still under warranty at the minute).
-
On the road
Driving
Good firm ride, traded a '96 Vectra which used to bounce around corners, the Astra much firmer and positive.
Performance
Never going to set the world on fire but hey its a 1.6i 8 valve, it could match any other similar engine, also if not driven hard it is surprisingly smooth and quiet.
-
Living with it
Reliability
So far so good, always starts for me, never makes me late for work and this is all I ask in return for regular oil changes and recommended services.
Image
I rate the car a 5 as I think it is a very good looking car, the Ford Focus is becoming too common and makes the Astra easily more affordable, you get more for your money HOWEVER choose your colour carefully,a nice metallic is best, avoid that horrid Green.
Comfort
Very comfortable, the feed back you get from the car is positive and seating positions are fine, radio controls on wheel add to the comfort.
-
Security and Service
Security
No alarm but factory fitted immobiliser with dead locks, what else do you need, if thieves want it nothing will stop them.
Service
Good, always have a courtesy car there if requested.
