Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 1.6i Club 5d (1999/V) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Has dropped its value a lot in the 18mths I had the car as the new Astra is now out. Was much cheaper than a Focus or Golf
Costs
Quite cheap to run. Services around £100 max. Fuel ecomony poor for a 1.6, but I suppose it has to work hard.

On the road
Driving
Not a bad drive for a supposedly dull car.
Performance
It's only a 8v but its a old engine that is known well and has been improved on in the years it has been used. Apparently much stronger than the other engines in the range.

Living with it
Reliability
Bulbs behind dash fail often. Fuel pump failed. Apart from that it's good considering it does 25000 miles a year.
Image
Ok, same as focus. No family car will have a great image due to the number of this type of car on the road.
Comfort
Drives like a big car. No aches and pains after a long drive which I can't say after driving a Focus.

Security and Service
Security
Not much as standard.
Service
They have been helpful in the parts dept. Main dealer too expensive for the labour!
