Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 1.8i 16V Sport 5d (1998/S) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Excellent. Got mine cheap off a family member, should hold its value for some time (I hope!)
Costs
Insurance isn't too bad (Group 7 or 8). Petrol can be pricey if you put your foot down. Wouldn't get 400 miles out of a full tank if you drive it hard often.

On the road
Driving
Excellent driving position. Doesn't feel like a five door family wagon.
Performance
Unbelievable! My 0-60 is 8.2secs, not bad for a family hatchback. Can beat most boy racers! Clock only goes to 130mph whereas newer SXi models (which replaced the sport) go to 140mph, but it'll go off the clock.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems yet.
Image
Family hatchback! Say no more, but hoping to improve that with some sensible modifications.
Comfort
Excellent interior. Sports seats with lumbar and adjustments for motorway driving, adjustable steering wheel for a great driving position.

Security and Service
Security
Standard Cat 2 but I've up'd mine to a Cat 1 Toad Ai606 alarm and immobiliser for peace of mind.
Service
Car hasn't reached its service interval yet but had Vauxhall's before, normally quite good.
