Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 2.2i 16V SRi 3d (AC) (2004/53) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Bought 6 months old and saved thousands, but similar cars still hundreds less even after a couple of months (blame new model)
Costs
Insurance very reasonable and good for 40mpg at on long run with gentle right foot around town drops to mid 20s mpg
-
On the road
Driving
Excellent roadholding, brakes, steering and pedals spoiled only by typical clunky Vauxhall gearbox
Performance
Excellent with plenty of torque low down and not all top end thrashing. Much better day to day than turbo GSi
-
Living with it
Reliability
All okay except faulty exhaust (under warranty)
Image
Goes unnoticed other than to those who spot the twin tailpipes and larger wheels which is exactly what I want anyway. Mine does not have (naff) optonal bodykit, thankfully
Comfort
Excellent ride despite sports suspension, seat could do with more under-thigh support, shame about crappy seat fabrics and cheapo switchgear

Security and Service
Security
Seems okay car garaged by night and in secure car park by day though
Service
Network Q a bit patchy. Initial valetting not brilliant and took 3 return visits to sort faulty exhaust and catalyst
