Vauxhall Astra Saloon 1.4 LS (82ps) 4d (1992/K) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Very good value car. Parts and servicing is cheap and engine reliable and pokey.
Costs
Cost effective servicing but the little things such as replacement window switches cost a fortune.

Driving
Good overall drive. Doesn't wallow around corners but let down by the lack of power steering. With tracking and balacing done it's fine but tends to drift out of alignment within months.
Performance
A nippy little number considering it's a 1.4 injection.

Living with it
Reliability
I've had mine 4 1/2 years and only had to replace the battery as well as the usual brakes etc.
Image
I'd prefer to be seen in a Freelander!
Comfort
Seats are great as is driving position.

Security and Service
Security
Locks are fine, but could open the door with a coat hanger easily enough. I always use a crooklock.
Service
Cheap enough.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Very reliable. Engine mounts need changing soon.
Other
Problems with central locking. Quirky at times in that it refuses to open one door or other. Boots stoped working on the central locking a year back and this week the rear n/s passenger door failed totally not even opening manualy.
