Vauxhall Calibra 2.0i 16V SE8 3d (1997/R) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Compares well with previous less sporty cars I have owned.
Costs
Similar to an average family saloon and the great aerodynamics means the car slips through the air to achieve a good 35 mpg even when booted.

Driving
This version, the last of the 2.0 litre Special Edition (SE) models has the wheels and tyres of the V6 version that helps handling.
Performance
For a 2 litre 16 valve it has plenty of poke when you need it and is a great cruiser at motorway speeds. Plenty of grunt when you need it in 5th gear too. Great sounding engine.

Living with it
Reliability
Had a few minor problems but most of these were after a main dealer service in August 2003. Car was running fine until then but has not really been the same since. Had it converted to run on LPG in June 2000, a great decision and car runs really well.
Image
Often gets admiring glances or comments but keep it looking pristine anyway.
Comfort
Best point is the very low air noise at high speeds due to the aerodynamic shape. Other comfort factors are average but this model has air-con. Special chequed interior rather than leather.

Security and Service
Security
Satisfactory but had mine upgraded to Thatcham Cat 1. No one's nicked it!
Service
Car is great but let down several times by different main dealers.
