Vauxhall Calibra 1990-
  • Economy

    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

A lot of car with a lot of style, for not a lot of cash.

V6 is obviously thirsty and parts are a rip off.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nice ride. Good cornering, but the car is heavy and doesn't like uneven roads.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Auto box could do with an extra gear or two and suprisingly 2.0 16v is quicker.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

No problems other than engine management after 1 year.

    Image

Unfortunately has a boy racer image, but boy racers are intimidated when they see the rare V6 badge. A lot of women mistake it for a much classier and more expensive car (eg, Ferrari once!).

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Cream leather is fantastic to sit in and to look at, and heated seats a major bonus.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not a great effort from Vauxhall. Surely they knew that these cars would be a target. Recommend upgrading alarm on pre '96 models.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Was ignored for half an hour while all the staff were 'chatting' on phones and one female staff member starred into thin air. Don't use main dealer if you can avoid it.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Not enough power considering the engine size. Can't beleive 2.0 16v NON TURBO seems to go quicker.

    Other

Suspension is really not very forgiving. Wealthy Grandads: stay away from sports cars like this.
