Vauxhall Cavalier Hatchback 1.8i LS Cat 5d (1994/L) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I have owned the car since nearly new and I consider it to be excellent value for money. Residuals could have been stronger at times but it is certainly a great value for money second-hand buy.
Costs
It's an easy car to service, parts are inexpensive and readily available. Economy has been superb and one aspect I cannot fault. On long journeys I could return 45 or 50mpg, which for a 1.8 petrol car was superb.

On the road
Driving
Lovely car to drive, especially on long journeys. Great motorway car, smooth, quiet and comfortable.
Performance
Performance is not awe-inspiring. It has reasonable lift in mid range going from 50 to 70mph which seems to be its best performance related aspect.

Living with it
Reliability
This has been excellent. I maintained car to the servicing schedules and it has never let me down in 140,000 miles with the exception of a faulty fuel pump at 125,000 miles.
Image
Dated now but flashy enough in its day!
Comfort
An extremely comfortable car, great seats and a superb car for long journeys. The most comfortable car I have ever owned.

Security and Service
Security
Car is fitted with standard deadlocks which I wouldn't regard as adequate security.
Service
Servicing by the franchised dealer is overpriced and unnecessary for this car. An easy car for DIY servicing and wide availability of spare second hand parts.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Engine has been hugely reliable. 140,000 miles and just routine servicing.
Other
With the exception of a faulty fuel pump, car has been nothing but hugely reliable. Would definately buy another one.
