Vauxhall Cavalier Hatchback 2.0i CDX 16V 5d (1995/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Pretty reasonable, paid £1200 with 63k miles on the clock and full Vauxhall service history.
Costs
Again reasonable, although insurance a tad high. Economy arond town so-so, but brilliant on a good run up the country.

On the road
Driving
Good no-frills car, it goes, stops and goes 'round corners fine. Considering discs all-round, weight and power, have had a better set of anchors. Ride firm but not particularly sporty.
Performance
Pretty good. Don't really need to cane it, but if you do it does start to shift. No problems with overtaking. Economy generally good. Read somewhere to 60 took 8 secs. Wouldn't go that far.

Living with it
Reliability
No real problems. Water pump seized, knocking the timing out. 16 new valves later...
Image
Erm, it's a Cavalier.
Comfort
Great. No problems, even on 6hr+ trips, but then that's what it was designed for... Has some good toys like the A/C'd glovebox, but then it misses out on some basics like map pockets on the front seat backs and variable intermittent wipers.

Security and Service
Security
Good I think - no attempts yet. Usual stuff, alarm, immobiliser and dead locks. No locking nuts though...
Service
No problems with the local Vauxhall dealer, just the prices are a little high.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Water pump went at 64k miles. Wear and tear though.
Other
Minor, but the aerial doesn't hold the stations very well - always 'searching'.
