Vauxhall Corsa Hatchback 1.2 Merit 3d (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Not great - cost £5500 when bought in 1999. Really miserly levels of equipment - doesn't even have an alarm when you've left the headlights on, which has led to me flattening the battery on numerous occasions.
Costs
Good economy - I get 400 miles out of a £30 tank of petrol (big fuel tank for a small car).

On the road
Driving
Handles slightly worse than your average tank. Leans like crazy through corners - should be much better in a small car.
Performance
Snails can beat you off the lights. But what can you expect from a 45bhp car!

Reliability
I used to have a Fiat and it beats that into the floor for reliability, but that isn't saying much. Can be temperamental in cold/wet weather. If I leave it for a few days, the points have to be sprayed with WD40. Saying that, I haven't had any big bills.
Image
People will point and laugh.
Comfort
I do a lot of miles (25,000/year) and this isn't a nice car to do them in. Noisy and uncomfortable.

Security and Service
Security
Stereo got nicked. I presume they didn't want the car!
Service
Never used a Vauxhall dealer. Always go to backstreet garages.
