Vauxhall Corsa Hatchback 1.3 CDTi SXi 5d (2004/54) Owner Review

Economy
Value
The car has everything I want on it, electric mirrors, CD player with steering controls and remote central locking. The Clio I owned before had more equipment but that was never used so I don't miss it. It's an SXi so it came with 15-inch alloy wheels.
Costs
The biggest and most obvious difference with the new car is the fuel-economy - the 1.3 CDTi returns 60mpg every time without fail. On a long motorway run the economy hits 75mpg. Cheaper on tax and much cheaper on insurance. Exceptional.

Driving
It's a very enjoyable car to drive, the steering is very nicely weighted - it lightens up to park and becomes tighter at higher speeds. All the pedals are very light and there isn't much travel between the different gears so changing is quick and easy.
Performance
Absolutely exceptional for a 1250cc engine! Obviously a little slow off the mark but once it's moving the power comes in surges and the car accelerates very well even with 5 people in the car. It pulls up hills better than much bigger petrol engines.

Living with it
Reliability
Haven't had the car very long so a bit early to judge, but no problems as yet.
Image
I think it's a nice-looking car - it's the facelifted Corsa so the headlights are jewel-effect which improves the appearance. The car is Ultra Blue and everyone has commented on what a nice colour it is.
Comfort
Slightly less comfortable than the Clio I owned before but not drastically different. The front seats hold you well and the car will accommodate four adults quite comfortably - three people can fit in the back with reasonable leg room.

Security and Service
Security
The car has an alarm and immobiliser. One press of the key will open the driver's door and two presses open them all so that nobody can jump in with you. All the doors can be deadlocked with two presses of the key.
Service
Good service from from the used-car salesman and good after-sales care.
