Vauxhall Insignia Hatchback (2009 - 2017) 2.0 CDTi (140bhp) ecoFLEX Elite 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Another missed opportunity from GM - Could have been so much better. Nice equipment level on the Elite and most of it is good quality except the infotainment system often crashes and requires the car to be switched off to reset. Excessively bright LED headlights seem to annoy a lot of other drivers. Annoying list of mechanical faults over 4 years but most are easily fixed and most parts not too expensive for the DIYer. The main fail for this car is the terrible diesel engine which has awful lag and far too easy to stall, but is really good for relaxed 70mph cruising. Impossible to service wthout coating the drive with used engine oil due to silly filter position. Nice gearbox and smooth clutch action. Leather seats are very nice and get better with age if looked after and conditioned properly. Split climate control is great on the Elite and aircon is superb. Fuel consumption claims by GM are a total fiction and I get about 55MPG with a lot of motorway cruising. Overall a good honest car (MPG aside) but don't pay top price for one. I wish I had bought a petrol example.
How reliable do you find the car?
Turbo pipe split, clutch master cylinder failed, broken springs, clunking rear suspension, failed glow plug (the expensive type) Nothing beyond DIY but fiddly.
Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Bought for advertised fuel economy but Vauxhall claims are vastly exagerated. Awful diesel engine with tragic turbo lag bordering on dangerous in essex rush hour traffic and horrible to service. harsh ride for a top model. However good equipment level in the Elite, and most things work very well. Very comfortable for long journeys. Fantastic Aircon
