Vauxhall Insignia Hatchback (2009 - 2017) 2.0 CDTi Exclusiv (160bhp) 5d Auto Owner Review

In their own words
Nice car the Insignia, but watch for common problems. My 2.0 CDTi has had the usual diesel problems, but the one to watch out for on this cars engine is sudden failure of the oil pick up valve/seal. If it fails you will get low oil pressure and the engine will seize. This can happen anytime but usually after the infamous 100,000 mile mark, thank fully I have had mines fixed before it got bad, expensive but worth it if keeping the car long term, the timing belt is also worth doing.
But service these cars on time and use quality fuel and oil and you should find it generally reliable. The only other thing to watch out for is the manual gearbox's can fail early as well suffering bearing wear. Thankfully my automatic model does not have this problem. Though with the miles getting on it wont last forever either. But this is a cheap used car.
Anyway, onto the positives - the car is very smooth to drive, comfortable and great looking. This "Exclusiv" 2011 model is a bit basic but it has enough electric features for me. Good to drive and getting 40 - 45 mpg, about right for a 2.0 diesel automatic in a heavy car.
Buying used - do not pay too much for one (lots of over priced cars out there) and make sure it has history, and keep an eye out for the common problems and it should prove an OK car.
