Vauxhall Monaro 5.7 V8 2d (2004/04) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I Bought it for £28.000 and got a heck of a car. Quite simply, the best value for money Supercar ever. Sure the other Euro alteranatives might be more refined, but if you seriously value your money, then pay serious attention to this Aussie beast.
Costs
Eat lots of tires! New set of tires already at 7.000 Miles. Car's value dropped 15% after just 8 months of ownership. Surprisingly economical for such a big, heavy V8 powered car. Average 23 Mpg. Not bad though.

On the road
Driving
Car handles well, for such a big barge. Predictable oversteer and smooth ride. Good brakes and responsive steering. Poor traction on wet or snow, the rear wheels tend to spin easily even with the traction control on.
Performance
Accelerates very fast! 60 Mph already in 2nd Gear! Huge Torque provides great pulling power. Gearbox is smooth, but Clutch is heavy. Engine sounds beautiful.

Living with it
Reliability
It came already with a broken driver's seat back rest. Dealer fixed it under warranty.
Image
Vauxhall badge doesn't add too much prestige. But this is a special Vauxhall, even though is not built by Vauxhall. It may look a bit like a 2 door Omega, which makes it a bit ordinary, but it's still a handsome looking car nonetheless.
Comfort
Roomy interior and comfortable leather seats. Well equipped interior, although the material looks cheap and flimsy. Poor rear visibility due the tall rear-end and the rear windshield isn't big enough. The boot is quite spacious for a Coupe.

Security and Service
Security
Standard Alarm and Immobiliser. Insurance is cheaper if compared to other sport cars of the same class.
Service
Dealer took two days to fix the broken seat. Dealer gave me a free hire car (Vauxhall Astra). Not all Vauxhall dealers are allowed to sell the Monaro and honestly, those that sell it seem to lack any knowledge about this car.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Reliable, so far. Starts first time and the V8 Burble sounds amazing!
Other
Despite of the broken seat problem, i still think this is a reliable car. It starts first time, never left me stranded. Very good car overall, my girlfriend loves it. The Monaro, overall, is much more superior than my previous 2002 Mazda MX-5.
