Vauxhall Omega Estate 2.0i 16V CDX 5d Auto (94) (1994/M) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Big car for small price - practicality is its best feature. If you're towing, this is far better value than big 4x4 stuff and is well thought of.
Costs
Vary enormously - cheap for usual consumables - quite high if something is 'main dealer only'.

On the road
Driving
Rear wheel drive doesn't suit all; can catch you out, but is predictable. Does its best work on longer family trips.
Performance
If you want a sportscar, why are you reading this. It does its job and no more. 35mpg on a longer run, but struggles to reach 25mpg round town.

Living with it
Reliability
Bought it at 90,000 miles, now done 155,000 and I've still got it. Seems to just keep going if looked after with regular services. Some recurring minor troubles though.
Image
If this were a German car manufacturer's badge (but wait, what's an Opel?) a certain type of person would love, not loathe it - it's a cheap exec car.
Comfort
Long distance runaround - Yes! it lets you go on for longer than most 'luxury' cars.
-
Security and Service
Security
Seems adequate but have you ever heard of one being stolen. Weak door locks mean I have enough trouble getting in sometimes anyway.
Service
Main dealers too costly and not - had car for 3 days, wanted £600 for shocks that didn't need changing, and then still needed me to tell them what was wrong - I could go on, but it's not the car's fault!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Basic engine very reliable, but the ECU side of things lets it down with a recurring fault - guess what - main dealer can't find what's wrong!
Other
Trim strips outside fall off or catch at door openings. Door locks keep 'disconnecting' which means taking the internal panels off.
Ownership
