Economy
Value
Good value for money, well equipped.
Costs
Plenty of third party parts suppliers give better value than manufacturer's original parts, so bringing servicing costs down.
-
On the road
Driving
Precise steering, wallows over undulating road surfaces. Rear suspension bottoms out with only light loads in boot. Front suspension bushes require regular replacement, as do anti roll bar joints.
Performance
Not too bad for a 2 litre. Can be pushed to be surprisingly nimble and responsive.

Living with it
Reliability
Idle control valve fails every 30k or so causing engine to either stall, rev excessively or hunt on tickover. Can be cured with a good cleanout with carb cleaner. Replacement is £160 from Vauxhall.
Image
A bit long in the tooth now,
Comfort
Seating comfortable with good rear legroom. 3 full seatbelts in rear. No air con on this model, but factory fitted electric sunroof.

Security and Service
Security
Has alarm and immobiliser fitted as standard. Remote locking fob switches fail and cannot be repaired, replacements are expensive.
Service
Can be expensive at a main dealer, not too bad elsewhere.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Must have cambelt changed at 40k, cams can become noisy, especially when engine is cold. Idle air valve fails regularly.
Other
Mine has done 196,000 miles! So, as expected suspension has needed attention, as has handbrake which seizes regularly. So long as it is serviced regularly and given a little TLC regularly, this car should be good for at least another 100,000 miles.
