Vauxhall Sintra Estate (1997-1999) engines, drive and performance

The 2.2 litre petrol is a perfectly adequate engine, refined, economical with a reasonable turn of speed, getting to 60 mph in around 10 seconds. Not that different from the much more expensive and flexible V6 which isn’t worth the extra cost. Gearchange is vague and van-like.
It drives like a van. There is lots of noise inside, and rattling noises from the seats and the trim as the Sintra goes about its unremarkable business. It does feature a car-like driving position, but the handling is distant and there’s plenty of body lean. Only the firmish big car ride makes up for its lack of road manners.
