Vauxhall Vectra Estate 1.8 SXi 5d (01) (2001/51) Owner Review

Economy
Value
If it was free it would be poor value. Bought nearly new so depreciation means selling so soon would lose a lot of money.
Costs
Fuel economy is poor (my Nissan 200SX Turbo is better!) but insurance and parts are cheap.

On the road
Driving
Sloppy, unresponsive and the steering is vague at best. ABS brakes are a joke and I have disconnected them because they're dangerous. Wide wheels means it suffers from tramlining. Gearchange is smooth enough though.
Performance
It's suppose to have 125 bhp. I think 100 of them must be in the radio! Acceleration is poor combined with the front wheels spinning at every opportunity means nipping out in traffic is touch and go. There is very little torque and it just won't rev.

Living with it
Reliability
Average. Lots of small problems like starting, tickover erratic, plastic trim bits keep falling off. Hasn't left me stranded yet, so I won't be too harsh.
Image
Stereotypical rep-mobile although it has nice alloys and spoiler.
Comfort
Seats are fairly comfortable and air conditioning is good but it's spoilt by being so bad to drive.

Security and Service
Security
Seems ok. Alarm and locks are nothing special though.
Service
Reasonably cheap but not particularly good.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Erratic idling, fails to start occasionally. Engine revs sometimes when the clutch is pressed and takes a while to settle. Engine diagnosis said there was nothing wrong however??
Other
Electrics can be dodgy, trim is very flimsy. I keep getting flat tyres (I think it's the seal on the alloy wheels).
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
No
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
