Pros & cons
Seven-seat practicality, impressive performance, sporty styling, handles well for a people carrier
Lacks finesse, expensive to run, not all the family will appreciate its performance
Vauxhall Zafira VXR (05-10) rivals
Overview
There is nothing quite like the Zafira VXR on the market. It seems the idea of making a high performance people carrier is a strange notion for most car manufacturers. The powerful engine is certainly at odds with the Zafira’s image as a family people carrier and the strange mix means this an unusual choice for most. It uses the same 240bhp turbocharged engine as the Astra VXR, but will carry up to seven people – or five people and an awful lot of luggage.
It corners well and will sprint from 0-60mph in just over seven seconds, but the ride is firm, it’s not that enjoyable to drive and it has high running costs.
