Volkswagen Arteon Coupe (2017 - 2024) SE 2.0 TSI 190PS DSG auto 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I bought this car as an ex-demonstrator.
On the plus side it's comfortable, quiet, smooth, very economical and has loads of space for passengers and luggage.
However, there has been creaking from the suspension since I bought it and the dealer says this is normal(!).
Also, some of the tech is at best irritating and at worst downright dangerous.
For instance the stop/start system kicks in whenever it feels like, sometimes not at all, but often just as you're about to pull away from a junction. And when you are in traffic it uses the front sensors to start the engine when the car in front pulls away. This is good in theory, if all drivers sit still in traffic....but they don't! An awful lot of drivers stop then move forwards a few feet, which fools the engine into starting.
But, the most dangerous thing with these cars is the infotainment system. If you use cruise control it links with the SATNAV to give predictive cruise, so in theory it slows the car automatically when you approach roundabouts or T-junctions.
Three times now the system has malfunctioned and lost its position. The most recent case was when I was on the M6 Toll road overtaking a truck. The system glitched and suddenly it thought I was in a housing estate in Birmingham. It thought I was in a 30 limit near junction and slammed the brakes on! Imagine how dangerous that could have been on a busier road like the M25.
I wouldn't recommend buying one of these, or any VW with the same system.
