Economy
Value
These cars especially the 2.0l really hold there value if kept in good condition.
Costs
Sometimes thirsty as gearbox has high ratio but performance is not matched to the high revs.

On the road
Driving
Nice central driving position, but front pillars are very wide - sometimes obscuring view round corners.
Performance
Could be better - wide tyres and weight equal slowish 0-60. Will keep up with golf GTi though, but 1.8T is better for acceleration. Saying that boy racers don't expect to be beat by a beetle - its great fun.

Living with it
Reliability
This car has never caused any problems - engine is ultra reliable but electric windows are rubbish!! See how many you can spot that are held up by gaffer tape!! Both mine have been replaced - poor plastic brackets.
Image
Cool if you have a nice colour - and no rear badges means poor 1.4'ers' also look cool.
Comfort
Excellent leather seats and winter pack with air con is great in winter and summer. Now used to central arm rest and would now not be without one.

Security and Service
Security
Not sure - no one has ever tried to steel it. But has immobiliser and central locking so? - average.
Service
Everyone knows that main dealers are not that cheap so find a backstreet garage with a 'POD' and they will be able to detect problems with sensors etc.

Other
As I said electric window brackets were first made of plastic. VW now make them from metal. A new kit is only about £30 inc pulleys and metal wiring. Fitting is simple as long as you have three hands and a brain.
