Economy
Value
Well built and still sort after. Should outperform the Ford Focus on re-sale values.
Costs
The 2.0 litre lump is a old design and can be thursty around town, coupled with a useless 5th gear means its expensive on the motorway. Servicing can also be expensive at VW stealerships.

On the road
Driving
Firm and secure With traction control and ABS thrown in, there's practically nothing to worry about.
Performance
For a 2.0 litre lump this engine just does not deliver the performance other new designed 2.0 litres can. Look seriously at the 1.8 turbo.

Living with it
Reliability
Well its a VW it should be good.
Image
Still gorgeous.
Comfort
Head banging in the back seats, but good up front. Useless boot. Even worse the folding back seat won't fold flat unless the front seats are pulled forward. Forget your golf clubs.

Security and Service
Security
Built in alarm, immobiliser, central locking can be a bad thing. Centrally lockable doors from the driver's side also. Still could perhaps be better.
Service
Generally good
