Having owned at least 11 original Beetles, 1200, 1300 and 1500 versions, we liked the look of the latest incarnation of the "New Beetle". We were looking for a "retirement" car and we both loved the old Beetle, found the original "New Beetle" (1998 -2010) somewhat lacking, but the version brought out in 2012 much more in keeping with the original Beetles of the 1950s and '60s.
A test drive showed that it would be ideal for us in our retirement. It is "quirky" enough that it draws comments wherever we go. We've had no major problems apart from the heated rear window wiring which was sorted out under warranty and has been fine ever since.
The car is now 5 years old and we still enjoy driving it on a daily basis. It is now my wife's trademark!
Our local dealer has tried to persuade us to change, but unless Volkswagen start building them again we will not be changing again anytime soon!
