VW Bora 1999-
  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Paid £14k from VW dealer for a 1 year old UK car with only 375 miles! Ran for 26 months, sold back as a 30,000miler/3 year old for £7.5k. A lot cheaper than a comparable Audi / BMW.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

'Oil service' about £90, full service about £170. 10,000 intervals a pain for higher milage drivers.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Strong relaxed heave - rather than agressive acceleration. Great grip on 205/55/16s, but steering slightly vague. Great long distance motorway car.

    Performance

    3 out of 5 3.0

My 150bhp (early variant) had reasonably strong, rather than impressive, performance - but not until 4200rpm. I'd advise to go for a later 170bhp model (4 valves per cylinder!)

Had hours of fun with the folding key! Good strong VW image and 'sensible' saloon shape (with a nice red light performance - if needed). A good Q car. I bought a yellow one. I wouldn't again as it cheapened was it a great all-round car.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Great in the front and sensible spec. Rear was a little cramped.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

No real problems - never got used to boot lock/unlock sequence from key fob.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

It's good customer service - but boy do you pay for it!
