Volkswagen Bora 2.3 V5 4d (2000/W) Owner Review

-
Economy
Value
Solid quality car and cheaper than a BMW!
Costs
Heavy on front tyres, but averaging 32mpg - not bad for a big engine.
-
On the road
Driving
Firm, direct steering, although not as composed over bumpy roads as a BMW 3 series.
Performance
Lovely smooth V5 power promotes relaxed driving and little gear changing if you're cruising around. Let it rev out and the power piles on well, though not as punchy as my Golf TDi PD 130.

Living with it
Reliability
41,000 miles with no hassles. Servicing not cheap, but long intervals and good customer care.
Image
Rare by Golf GTi standards and sportier looking than Passat. Pretty stylish chariot!
Comfort
Impeccable VW build quality with fully loaded cabin and firm, supportive seats, but poor material - loves dog hairs and fluff.

Security and Service
Security
Broken into in multi-storey a year ago. Door lock pulled out, which bypassed security system and deadlocks! Disgraceful for this class of car!

Other
Watch your front tyres and steering bushes.
