Volkswagen California (2005 - 2015) 2.0 BiTDI SE (180bhp) 4d Owner Review

A great vehicle. A family favourite with many many happy memories associated with it. Extremely flexible and versatile.Low cost of ownership as well. Expensive to buy but holds its price really well so great value actually, As a daily drive its good. As a weekender its great. It is however a Camper Van with emphasis on the Camping. We have two adults and two kids and it just about gets by for 3days or more. Overnight is great and mountainbiking (the rack is great). We've been sailing in the lakes and taken bikes, boats, bags, no problem. The cabin heater is great and the electric pop top is quick and easy. The control panel for all system information is great. I'd recommend the best spec you can afford as most of those extras all work well, add value and comfort to the vehicle. It drives really well, comfortable, ample power and will regularly do 700 miles to a tank. Can cruise happily at motorway speeds, yet nip around town quite easily. A real multifunctional vehicel. If I had to have just one vehicle in the household this would be it. The downside is IMO the appalling customer support from VW. The vehicle is great the support and respect for customer is quite frankly non existent. If I could join a class action against them on some fundamental design issues I would! I will keep this now I own it but I will never buy a new VW for this reason.
