Volkswagen Caravelle 2.5 TDI PD SE (174ps) 5d (2003/53) Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
-
Economy
Value
If you want space, Caravelle has it - lacks attention to detail of Renault Grande Espace.
Costs
Should we pay as much, if not more, for a beautifully fitted out van as a specific built people carrier?
-
On the road
Driving
High driving position, excellent gear change, everything adjusts, stunning performance for something innocent looking.
Performance
Eats motorways, not a 'traffic light racer', use that 3rd and 4th gear to leave them stunned.
-
Living with it
Reliability
As a car it has 3yr 100,000m warranty, as a van 5yr 250,000 warranty - same basic vehicle.
Image
Priced up there with Land Rover Discovery III, well if you want to impress your neighbours in suburbia with your £28k+ - forget it. Never fails to impress those sceptics who ride in it!
Comfort
Adequate here. Espace is better. All 7 seats are comfy for adults. Caravelle carries 7 adults in comfort with rear, independent, heating controls. Move seats around and put that amazing table up - bard room or picnic? Rear seats fold flat for double bed!

Security and Service
Security
Who wants to nick one of these? Immobiliser, door open sensors, interior intrusion sensors, etc.
Service
Shocking dealer support. Completely out of touch with customers.
