Economy
Value
Second-hand price has dipped recently, so mint examples can be had for less than £5k.
Costs
Insurance is group 17, which is high considering its modest performance. 16V engine is cheaper to maintain compared to VR6.

On the road
Driving
Great handling but hard ride. A real grin factor though.
Performance
Rev happy engine that comes on song after 3500rpm. Refined, but not blistering performance.

Living with it
Reliability
VW's renowned reliability not quite here - door handles break, sunroofs jam and heater controls are very flimsy.
Image
Not your average boy racer car. This car oozes class and style.
Comfort
Seats are comfy, but suspension is firm. Cabin mostly rattle-free.

Security and Service
Security
Aftermarket security a must if you want it parked outside your house when you wake up.
Service
The dealer service is terrible - find a good indepedant specialist and you should be okay.
