98k new driveshafts and downpipe. Parts are very cheap from German Sweedish or French.

    Driving

Handles very well when lowered 40mm. Out corners a lot of modern cars

    Performance

    2 out of 5 2.0

90bhp as standard is slow for a 1.8, but I've heard that the engine can be tweeked to 145 bhp which is respectable for an 80 icon

    Reliability

Looks fantastic. Definate head turner. I have an R & A designs bodykit, lowered on 15"" rims. Owning a Golf is a lifestyle. Everywhere i go other V.W. Golfs always flash lights wave etc. Golf owners are the friendliest people on the road.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Standard seats are ok, but ive replaced them with Cobra bucket seats for that sporty feel

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Needs cat 1 alarm. Mine was recently broken into via the rear window, but alarm stopped anything being stolen. Also roof was cut which has set me back around £300 fitted

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

The only reason i'm selling my car is performance, im eyeing up a 96 celica gt4 which has 200+ bhp as standard. And I can't afford £6200 foe a 1.8 20v turbo conversion. V.W. cars go on forever!

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

    Reliable, but slow for 1.8

    Other

Lovely car, not too much fun on the motorway, but proper head turner in the summer with the roof down, so go and make people jealous by owning one!
