Volkswagen Golf Estate 1.6 16V S 5d (2001/Y) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
1.6 16v are good value second hand. Stay away from main dealers.
Costs
Group 6 insurance, £ 145 tax. Cheap parts. I only use main dealers to buy genuine parts.

On the road
Driving
Nice to drive around town and also good on motorways.
Performance
Silky smooth willing engine. The car is two heavy to ever feel sporty.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Overall very good.
Image
Nothing looks as good this side of a BMW 3 series Touring.
Comfort
I like the firm supportive seats with lumbar support. Excellent driving position with lots of adjustment.
-
Security and Service
Security
I have not had any problems as yet
Service
The parts department are very helpful. I would not buy or have a Volkswagen serviced at a main dealer.

Problems and Ownership
Problems

None
Other
Offside rear brake was binding, brake pads had to be replaced prematurely. Rear window washer, pipes came off and ruined the electronic boot release. (use genuine winter screenwash to prevent this happening)
