Volkswagen Golf Estate 1.9 SE TDI (130ps) 5d (2002/51) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Expensive to buy and trade in value seems to be 50% in 3+ years-GLUG
Costs
Service and parts are typically VW-e.g. expensive
-
On the road
Driving
Fast and safe, does what it should do. 6 speed box is an example to other manufacturers
Performance
Quite simply blistering, it doesn't seem to know it's a diesel and economy is astounding. I get 35-40 in town, and up to 55 on a run-and I don't drive slowly eg 70mph gives 50+mpg

Living with it
Reliability
31k fault free so far. Now it's out of warranty lets see what fails. Also VW h/ o didn't want to know about any warranty claims e.g. door rubbers frozen shut, didn't let me open door without damage, and they said it was my fault!
Image
Still turns heads (black and alloys )
Comfort
Good in front-not enough legroom in back especially 5 up

Security and Service
Security
Seems ok, but thankfully has not been tested
Service
Basically once they have your money, forget the word Service: H/O and dealers have a couldn't care less attitude. Very dissapointing as the actual product is good.
