Volkswagen Golf Estate (2013 - 2020) SE 1.5 TSI Evo 150PS 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Not my first choice of a family estate with some decent performance, as Golfs are usually priced out of the market by better value, but perfectly ok rival models. My particular car was a new 2019 emissions change-over 'bargain' at around a 1/3 off the list price, making it hard to ignore with it's generous specification and the 150 PS performance it promised.
Overall it's a better-than-average, highly honed and well thought-out product, but not really superior in quality of build as VW claim and so not worth much of a price premium over similar choices, even though better in other ways than it's closest-related Leon and Octavia cousins.
The ride refinement is most likely to impress and the boot is better thought-out compared to earlier Golf estates if that is important to you - I merely needed slightly more space than a Golf hatchback or similar-sized SUV can provide. My favourite toy is the light-sensitive rear view mirror, but generally the equipment seems to work better than on various Ford/Nissan/PSA cars I've tried.
I'm a fussy so-and-so with my vehicles, but I'm happy with it after 14 months and can only hope it performs as satisfactorily as the well-liked 2009 Proton it replaced. So far the steering and long-drive seat comfort are not quite as good, but otherwise there is very little to find fault with and much to like. However, had I'd paid near to the £25K list price it would have to be judged more harshly.
How reliable do you find the car?
It needed the infamous 1.5 TSI upgrade remap 'fix', which was done quickly without argument by the supplying dealer and it has been fine since.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Has the expected Golf attributes of perceived quality, nice little touches and genuine refinement. Very competent overall, handsome inside and out and it's abilities demand respect - even though it's maybe not as interesting/exciting as some rivals.About their car
