Volkswagen Golf Estate 1.5 TSI 150 Style 5dr Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
It is difficult to find the words to express how much I hate this car. Its like an untested concept car where they tried to cram it full of every conceivable gadget without caring if any of them work. Problems I have had include; satnav just disappearing and being unrecoverable, all heating controls disappearing, various driver assistance functions disappearing and then the car constantly beeping at me to tell me nothing works, tyre pressure warning system malfunctioning etc. The car requires constant software updates which sometimes fix some issues but can cause others. The VW garage told me they sometimes get software updates weekly. My favourite ‘feature’ is that whenever it rains or is frosty or there is just dew on the car in the morning, the parking sensors don’t work and then the car beeps at me to tell me that isn’t working either. It is supposed to have automatic air circulation controls but they don’t work either so if you are following something smelly you have no way of avoiding the smell. Absolutely everything is automatic, but nothing works properly so you just don’t feel in control of the car. The most dangerous element is that it brakes automatically if it thinks you are too close to something, a couple of times I was reversing with several inches to spare but the car suddenly jammed the brakes on, only mildly annoying now but when that malfunctions just like everything else and it does an emergency stop on the motorway at 70 its going to be more dangerous. Mine is still under warranty but they just don’t seem to be able to find what’s wrong, it seems this is how a Golf is supposed to be.
