Volkswagen Golf GTI (2005 - 2008) 2.0T GTI Edition 30 3d DSG Owner Review

In their own words
I have owned three VW Golf Mk Vs (2.0 TDI 140, 2.0 TDI 170 and 2.0 TFSI GTI Edition 30) and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving each of them.
The Golf GTI Edition 30 was by far my favourite car and was a much more thrilling and rewarding drive than the Mercedes C300 Coupe that replaced it. The suspension allows for enthusiastic driving on twisty roads, whilst remaining civilised on the motorway and through town.
The DSG gearbox is remarkable and the combination of DSG with the 230PS engine allows for rapid linear acceleration. The quoted 0-62 time of 6.8secs does not accurately reflect how much torque is available when driving the car enthusiastically - diesel levels of torque throughout the rev range.
How reliable do you find the car?
Bonnet catch had to be replaced and it threw bulbs on an almost quarterly basis - mechanicals and engine were otherwise superb, however.Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
The car does not disappoint - the DSG gearbox, the engine note, the supportive seats, all encourage enthusiastic driving.About their car
