Economy
Value
Relatively expensive to buy second hand , but worth it because it is very pleasant to own.
Costs
I'm a student and find running this car fine. The fuel consumption on the motorway is 45mpg, in hillier areas of Wales in the winter it drops to as low as 35mpg, but still not bad.

Driving
Pleasant to drive but not sparkling in any way. Weighty power steering is nice if you like it that way.
Performance
OK for a 1.4, feels livelier than figures suggest. Slow to pull away, but decent once on the move.

Living with it
Reliability
No problems in a year of ownership apart from difficulty selecting First and second gear for a bit with more movement in the engine than thought normal, got new mount and all OK.
Image
Very smart car, nice to think it looks good knowing it is pretty much a standard Golf. The VW badge helps its image immensely!
Comfort
Slow driving can be a bit bumpy, motorway driving very smooth, seats are very supportive.

Security and Service
Security
No alarm or immibiliser that I am aware of, thought immobiliser was standard fit, but obviously not!
Service
Not used VAG service yet, had VW specialist service it at 40k miles, cost half that of VW dealer.
