Economy
Value
Solidly built car that should outlast similar models from other manufacturers.
Costs
Average 52mpg, lowest 45mpg in very cold weather. Peak of 62mpg (720 miles on a tank). All are average for a full tank.
-
On the road
Driving
Handling is not the sharpest, nor the most involving, but quite safe and predictable.
Performance
Slow off the blocks, but lots of torque helps when overtaking.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Rear electric window has been the only fault from new.
Image
Beginning to look a little dated now that the newer Golfs appear to be everywhere. Paint is still fresh looking and interior has shown no wear.
Comfort
Seats are fine, noisy at speed and air con is really missed.

Not many joy riders want to run off with a diesel!
Service
Local dealer is expensive and does not offer a good service.
