Economy
Value
Quality does come at a price.
Costs
VAG servicing sounds reasonable, but by the time you add on the extras and VAT...

Driving
Wallows around corners too much and not much torque. Nippy nontheless, but the chassis not well harmonised with engine.
Performance
Pretty nippy, but handling lets it down.

Living with it
Reliability
Not bad so far, but not the quality VW built its reputation on.
Image
For a car 2 models old and first seen way back in 1992, it looks surprisingly good in its understated way on the roads today.
Comfort
Comfortable seats, excellent driving position, good dash layout. No air con however.
