Summary
What does this car say about you?
Says I like something with a reasonable amount of power, but at a reasonable price.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Looks good, reliable, solid German engineering.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes definately - should this car ever fall apart, I will be straight out to get another MK3 Golf, perhaps a VR6 this time??
What are you likely to buy next?
New suspension for this car. Not wanting to buy another car. Hopefully supplies of parts will not dry up in the future - if they should, then a MK4 Golf I guess.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£2,200
When did you buy the car?
January 2006
Did you get a good deal and why?
Independant VW specialist. Went around car with me after I'd looked over it, and wrote down any faults I could find, which were then fixed before collection. Good price, and included full service, MOT, 6 months tax, 3 months warranty.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Wanted something built to last. Slightly rare 16v, in very rare electric green.
What was the dealer like?
Very knowledgable when it comes to MK3 Golfs, very helpfull.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Not surprisingly, there's plenty of power there. Also, very comfortable on 100 mile plus journeys, but equally as comfortable in town and short runs. Isle of Wight roads are very bumpy so finding suspension a little firm, but changing them over soon to adjustable ones. Back end is a little light, carefull cornering in the rain!
What's it like to park?
Easy - plenty of visibility and decent sized wing-mirrors. Good view out of back window, no need to judge distance as the car ends where the window does. No bulgy-out bits.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong. Regularly serviced and maintained. Electrics are still faultless and the car's now 12 years old, apart from ignition switch which I changed myself, didn't cost much at all.
What's most practical about your car?
Man pedals - plenty of gap inbetween them so easy to drive in boots. Good adjustment on drivers seat. Load space with rear seats down is big enough to fit a 21" frame pushbike without having to take wheels off it.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
On board computer is nice, shows MPG, average MPH, oil temperature etc.
